Step 1 — Layout before beauty

Before a single tile is chosen, freeze the layout: where water enters, where it drains, which walls carry concealed plumbing. Moving a drain later is the single most expensive change order in renovation. If you're keeping the existing layout, your timeline shortens by weeks.

Step 2 — Waterproofing is the real luxury

Nobody photographs waterproofing, but it decides whether your renovation lasts three years or thirty. Insist on a proper membrane system, a flood test before tiling, and engineered adhesives matched to your tile — porcelain, marble and glass mosaic each need different chemistry.

Step 3 — Choose fittings as a family, not à la carte

Faucets, shower systems, sanitaryware and accessories look best (and service easiest) from one design family. As an authorised Kohler partner, we usually anchor the room with the fitting collection first, then build tile and stone around its finish — chrome, brushed brass, or matte black.

Step 4 — Floors that grip, walls that glow

• Floors: anti-skid matte, R10–R11, in sizes that minimise joints.
• Wet-area walls: large-format gloss or textured highlighter behind the shower.
• Vanity wall: this is your jewellery moment — stone slab, mosaic or fluted tile.

Step 5 — The vanity is furniture

A made-to-measure vanity in marble, PU or veneer turns storage into design. Pair it with a backlit mirror sized to the wall, not the basin. For freestanding tubs — marble and glass sculptural pieces are genuine centrepieces, but confirm floor loading and drainage early.
